I tried to upload a jpg file of only 531 KB, 835x1081 pix and the board says it's too big. That's not a big graphic. What gives?

Rob,
Try Save As with a lower resolution for the jpeg for a smaller file.

OK, how about a link to somewhere else that can handle it.

Hi Rob,
The current limit on attached files is 500KB. Most forums using phpBB have a default limit of 256KB (we upped ours).
You may think you uploaded a large file to Facebook but if you then download the image from there you will find it was automatically compressed to something a lot smaller. Your 531 KB file was reduced to 149 KB. Unfortunately we don't have an automated image compression routine available like Facebook so you need to do the compression yourself.
There are many ways to reduce files. Try opening the image in Preview and in the Tools menu select Adjust Size. If you're looking for a more controlled way to reduce image files then open the image in Photos and the select Export in the File menu. This lets you compress the file a significant amount without giving up a lot of image quality.
Cheers,
Derek

Oh, so I was close, but blind to what number to aim for.
