Balloon Text redux

After several years of retirement, I've picked up a few clients. Back to work. And I'm having a devil of a time with Balloon Text. I read through all of the forum posts, which identify a font issue. I reset the Text font from the PowerCadd menu to Times, and a few others. Font Book finds no errors.

No love. Each time I land on Balloon Text, crash.

I'm running Mojave 10.14.6, on 2016 MBP.

And I really need Balloon Text.

Any ideas?
