| The above drawing -- over 2 meters wide x 1 meter high with over 14,500 objects drawing in 50 layers -- was one of many prepared for the Melbourne Casino competition in Victoria, Australia. It shows the relationship of our proposal in context with the newly developed Southgate area and existing parkway along the Yarra River. |
I 'cut my eye teeth' with PowerDraw 2.0 back in '89 when I designed the Sheraton Towers Southgate (red dot above) adjacent the Melbourne Symphony Hall, Opera House and the Victoria Arts Centre.
I remember Dan Chin, a co-worker saying, "Bob, here's a CAD package for $79.50! We had been struggling along with a beta version of a long-awaited "Dreams" package. I said."Let's get it! We can't wait any longer!".
Dan phoned me from Computerware saying that the price in the ad had a "typo error" -- it was actually $795! We got it anyway and have been "grinding" with it every day since.
My drawings utilize ingredients that make them sell! Repetitive objects, or symbols, have been added to give them scale and interest, like trees, cars, people and color. I thought, "Why not make these symbols and other aids available to all PowerCADD users?" Well, they are available, and that's part of what I've been doing since all the Australian projects!
Recently, I realized how easy it was to use PowerCADD to prepare 3D models! PowerCADD is a "natural" to use with Google SketchUp! Extending the principles of my 2D symbol libraries, I ventured into the 3D world with the introduction of ModelPAK --add-in images to enhance a 3D model!
All parts of the outdoor furniture grouping (shown at the bottom of this page) were meticulously created in PowerCADD! Just like building a model airplane: 1) Lay the parts out on the floor, 2) Give them some thickness and 3) Assemble them in Google SketchUp!
And finally, I use PowerCADD every day for all preliminary layouts in my LazrLogos services. Graphic images can be scanned and traced in extreme detail using the terrific options of PowerCADD and WildTools!

Detail from the Melbourne Casino

The drawing above is a section through the Queensland Treasury Building. It's another multi-line, multi-layer drawing and also a casino competition presentation for the Conrad International entry. All details of National Registry buildings were recorded in AutoCAD! Using the DXF translation capabilities, all our required design drawings were selectively recreated in PowerDraw 3.0. We did win and the casino has a fitting name -- The Treasury!

RenderPAK symbol libaries include cars, boats, people, trees and
more.
