It used to be that if you forgot to move the palettes back before traveling, upon launching PC again, the palettes would be scattered about. Messy, but they were there.
Now I can’t get them back. The dock palettes command doesn’t seem to do the trick; some palettes, but not all get docked, and as soon as you try to reopen the palette, it disappears to the non-existent monitor.
A. I don’t have a slick method, but I do have a system that works cleanly.
Do you have your different defaults Preference files saved so you can switch the active one in the Preference folder?
I too, use a PowerBook with multiple monitors and then with built-in monitor elsewhere. I put my own “PowerCADD Prefs” folder, where I keep my master defaults, inside the System Folder. My folder I created sits right next to the active PowerCADD ‘Commands’ & ‘Defaults’ preference files. In the “PowerCADD Prefs” folder, I put a “1 Monitor” folder and a “2 Monitors” folder, each holding the master copy of the appropriate defaults. I also back up my commands file, but that doesn’t need to be changed.
I just Option drag a copy of the appropriate ‘Defaults’ file to the Preference folder to set the palettes for the next launch of PowerCADD.
If you want to get a bit fancy, you could have Quickeys call an Applescript to replace the files as needed. I must admit I haven’t had time to figure out how to write Applescripts.
