As for computers that are capable of running 10.14, I believe the Intel-based iMacs are capable even though they come with Big Sur. For other models, please check with Apple as they can instruct you as to which models are 10.14 capable.

I have some question to all forum members... Does anybody knows if Parallels is still an option, and will it still be with the newest MacOS to come out this year and the new Apple chip machines? Or... Would I need two machines, keeping the oldest one, in order to run PowerCADD in one of them. Also, if I already have Parallels installed in this machine, can I upgrade to the latest OS and the Parallels Virtual Machine will still work? Will the print drivers work or would I need to export the drawings converting them to PDF? I would appreciate the help.

My understanding is that Parallels won't run on the new Apple-chip Macs, but I've also heard that they're working on an upgrade, so that should eventually be possible. As for any greater detail, I haven't run Parallels in over a decade, so I have no clue as to your other questions.

I looked at the Parallels website and their blog…according to those v16.5 runs on both M1 and Intel Macs…
The problem is I'm pretty sure older operating systems needed to run PowerCadd (High Sierra/Mohave) still won't run in virtual machines on M1's

Hope this proves to be wrong…

Personally I prefer VMWare Fusion, which I'm using now, but VMWare has no immediate plans to be able to run OSX VM's on OSX on M1 macs…

Intel Mac Mini's are still for sale on Apple's website. They'll run the older OS's in a VM on Big Sur or Catalina…

Thanks Steve, Paul. I use a MacBook for work which I carry with me every day to the office, which is basically a PC-Windows office (and it’s more oriented toward project management - I’m the only one drawing for now and not much anymore). As things are going, it seems Intel machines will become obsolete faster than was thought when the M chip appeared. I see myself carrying two laptops to the office since updates of other software I use don’t work with Mojave anymore. Between spending the same amount for another software like VectorWorks (plus the learning curve) or a newer Apple chip laptop, I would choose the laptop. *Sigh*

Apparently, there is hope that the newer M1 chip that will come with the new MacBooks may be able to run older versions of MacOS with updated versions of VMs:

Thanks for making it clear that there is no future of PowerCADD with Engineered Software. I was wondering whether you would be agreeable to selling the code and future rights of the software to a third party. I understand that from a commercial point of view you consider this to be a non-starter but from a users point of view, for all of us there will be considerable outlay in adopting a different software platform, converting over 20 years of archived drawings, staff training and hardware upgrades as a consequence of this decision. It might well be that the idea of a users co-operative who collectively own this software and pay to keep it going - not for commercial but for reasons of continuity could be an option if the right people are found.

But if you are not open to this, it's best to know this now.
